Two Types of Review, Clearly Labelled
- Research review: the review is built from the manufacturer's specifications, the launch price, and independent test results, which the page cites and links. This is the type used on the site now.
- Hands-on review: used only when the page itself names the session. No current review publishes a sitewide launch-monitor test.
Step 1: Verify the Specs and the Price
We confirm loft options, head size, adjustability (sleeve range, number and mass of weights), stock shafts, lie and length from the manufacturer's spec sheet. We record the launch price separately from today's street price, and we note variants that cost more, such as launch-monitor-enabled versions, so prices are compared like for like.
Step 2: Read the Independent Testing
We review robot and player testing from established publications and independent reviewers, and we link the specific article we used. When sources disagree, we say so instead of picking the most flattering number.
Step 3: Our Own Testing
The reviews on this site are research reviews. We do not publish a launch-monitor model, a test location, a swing speed, or a shot count, because those details are not part of the method. If a future review is hands-on, that review will name the place, the ball, and the settings. Until then, distance and spin numbers come from the cited source, not from an unpublished session.
Step 4: How We Rate
| Category | What we look at |
|---|---|
| Distance | Ball speed and carry from cited tests and our own data where available |
| Forgiveness | Speed and direction retention on off-centre strikes; MOI where published |
| Adjustability | Loft sleeve range, weights and how useful the settings really are |
| Feel & sound | Hands-on reviews only |
| Value | Performance relative to launch and current street price |
Reviews do not use a single weighted score. They compare the published spec with the cited test and say who that combination suits.
Who Each Club Is For
Every review ends with a fit list: the swing speed, handicap range and typical miss the club suits, and who should skip it. A low-spin driver that suits a fast player can cost a slower player distance, so we say that plainly.
Editorial Independence
- No brand can pay for a review, a score or a ranking.
- A review states the source of each spec and each test number.
- Affiliate links earn a commission at no extra cost to you and never decide a verdict. See our Disclaimer.
Updates and Corrections
We update reviews when prices, specs or availability change, and the date at the top of the page shows the latest update. If you find an error, contact us and we will check it and correct it.
FAQ
Does Winner Golf Gear hit every club it reviews?
No. Current reviews are research reviews built from specifications and cited independent testing. A review that is hands-on will say so on that page.
Do brands pay for reviews?
No brand can pay for a review, a rating or a ranking. Affiliate links are disclosed and do not affect verdicts.
How often are reviews updated?
When prices, specs or availability change, or when a reader reports an error.
